Very pleasing story and a terrific bedtime book

My 5 year old son, Matthew, enjoys this story and has me read it occasionally at bedtime. The routine is to read the page then show the pictures. He thinks the illustrations of the Baby Snoogle Fleejer are quite funny and I think he understands the basic ideas of the story. I enjoy the story, too, and am especially pleased that the author is Jimmy Carter, a man that I always admired. He has written a truly unique story and his daughters' illustrations are exceptional. I highly recommend this book.

This book was interesting for me to read and easy to understand. I liked the book and hope that more will read it and enjoy it too. The book was about a crippled boy who wasn't like the rest of the little boys. He could not run or play. One day, he became very brave and the other kids respected him for that. I hope that you will read this book and find out what happened to him and how he became brave.

A Delightful Tale

Jimmy Carter has many facets to his personality, and it is charming to see one of them displayed here with his story of a crippled child. I am sure the Carter children and grandchildren all enjoyed hearing him share this one over the years. I bought this for my niece's fifth birthday. She will enjoy the colorful illustrations by Amy Carter, also. I recommend this book for any public or private library.

Great for Getting to the Next Level

I've been a pretty basic Excel user since I started taking finance and accounting courses to supplement my math degree. But I've never really needed to do anything besides using the sum function and doing some quick calculations--and honestly, I had no idea how much more there was that Excel could do without getting into VBA coding.

I checked out a few other books, and most of the things I found were either way too basic--teaching you how to use Excel as a calculator and walking you through data entry--or assumes were are already a hard-core power user who needs to dive into VBA. Neither of these really fit me. It walks you through the use and uses for the major functions--with plenty of examples and a ton of downloadable spreadsheets through the companion websites--before moving onto things like arrays (I thought that was just a MatLab thing!), pivot tables, goal seek, and linear and non-linear regressions, before finishing off with some chapters applying it all to finance. I haven't gone through the finance chapters yet, so I can't say that I won't revise my review downward if those chapters aren't as good, but if I do I doubt it will be more than just one star.

My only complaint is that it can be a little light on explanations. I don't always know why something is working the way it is, or why something won't work the I assume it should be. As an example, I was struggling to work through a problem using logical operators with arrays. With a little Googling I found that Excel is very limited handling logical operators with arrays. The book never told me this, and I haven't found a real good explanation as to why this is yet.

I'm using a slightly older version of Excel--2007, and I have only run into a couple things that haven't worked. There are a couple of functions that are in 2013 that are not in 2007, but I have been able to VBA codes online that create that function. Overall, I'm very happy with this and plan on moving on to either Mr Excel's VBA and Macros or Power Programming with VBA.

Thorough and comprehensive

I haven't yet found a question that this guide doesn't resolve. The TOC and Index have been invaluable in quickly locating topics. I thought I knew Excel well (18 years experience in training, assessing and supporting it), but almost from the outset I started learning new tips and tricks. I'm also finding out what I don't know. The book is written in "layman's" terms, and there've been many a Sunday afternoon where I read this for relaxation rather than a novel. If that makes me a nerd, so be it!

A relatively good book on how to get into Excel, for beginners. The thing with Excel is that, once you get your feet wet, there's no need for books, because every possible question is answered online by others who encountered the same question or challenge before you did. Then again, anything that lowers the initial threshold into this powerful program is a good thing, so three stars.

This book deals with the functions of Quality Management in SAP R/3 in the core processes of logistics: Purchasing, Production, Sales and Distribution, and Service. As the Quality Management module is embedded in the individual processes, not only the components themselves but also the interfaces and contact points to other components are explained. Building on the quality-relevant master data of the material and the basic data of the Quality Management module, we describe the processes of inspection planning, inspection lot creation and inspection lot completion. Furthermore, the quality notification, test equipment management and many other topics of significance are discussed in detail. The various functions are clearly described, illustrated with examples, scenarios and screenshots. The basis of our descriptions and source of the screenshots is the R/3 Release 4.5B, whereby the preceding versions 3.1 and 4.0 are taken into account in the discussion. Most of the examples were created using the IDES training system from SAP, Release 4.5B. Loaded with excellent information

Just having done a QM implementation without consultants, I know how much detail there is to wade through. This book would have been invaluable during that time, and has since allowed me to make several enhancements to my implementation. it touches on nearly every aspect of the QM module, and gets fairly in depth in many areas. The process maps from SAP to the ISO/QS standards alone were worth the price of the book. if you are thinking about sap qm, don't do it without this book.

Helpful and juicy

It has a pretty good coverage on the principal issues of QM. Worthy to pay. It clears up many doubts, good at results and defect recording, usage decision and inspection procedures. Illustrates you the QM general logic.

Lacks in quality certificates. Take it under your arm if you go into QM field.

Charles Dickens's early childhood was happy until his father was imprisoned for debt. Excellent, but not complete

The 36 pages of the free Kindle edition contain Dickens' riveting account of the wreck and aftermath. However, not included here are the collaborative bits (stories related by the castaways to ease their ordeal.) These were part of the original book, and were contributed by Wilkie Collins and other contemporaries of Charles Dickens. I was disappointed that these "stories within the story" were omitted.

A short story that takes one immediately into the location and the lives of the characters. Loved it but SOOOO wanted to know what the future held for everyone.

About the End of the Story....

SPOILER ALERT - The online version of this otherwise very good story that I and seemingly others have read ends with the lifeboats still lost at sea. There is a version of the story in Dickens' published "Christmas Stories" book that I am getting from the library to compare, but in doing some searching, it appears that there is nothing further about the end of the story available.

However, at the outset of the story, the narrator says that he is writing in 1856, and later says the voyage took place in 1851. From that, one would conclude that at least both the Captain and the First Mate, who finishes the story, survived in some fashion. But it does seem odd that there is no further explanation of what happened in the end - Dickens generally gave very detailed endings to most of his stories. I wondered if one of the other authors who apparently worked on the story supplied the ending (several of the stories that Dickens wrote with others have been published later omitting the portions not written by him, which can be frustrating), but I have so far not been able to find anything further. It appears what the other authors may have written instead are the stories the passengers told each other after the shipwreck, which are omitted in the online version that I read. In any event, as mentioned above, from the cited dates in the story, it appears that at least some survived the ordeal.
